Figures released this week by the UK Government Department of Health show that 95 women travelled from the Isle of Man to England or Wales for terminations in 2018 – the year during which the Isle of Man Abortion Reform Bill (now Act) was going through the legislative process and being debated in numerous sittings […]
The Isle of Man DHSC has chosen not to announce details of the new Manx abortion service which is available from today – so we’ll do it for them. The good news is that there is a dedicated booking and information telephone number (01624 642521). The bad news is that for now, this BPAS-run service […]
It’s official! Although the Health Minister David Ashford MHK was questioned about this at last month’s Tynwald, and said that that the Abortion Reform Act would be enacted in May, today he laid the necessary Appointed Day Order before the Court. At today’s sitting of Tynwald (Tuesday 15 January) President Steve Rodan MLC announced that the Abortion Reform Bill 2018 has received Royal Assent and will now be signed by the Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney KMG CVO on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Lord of Mann. The Abortion Reform Bill 2018 will have its first reading in the Legislative Council on Tuesday 22 May. It’s Item 3 on the order paper – the sitting starts at 10.30am in Legislative Chamber – but it’s likely that any debate will take place at the second reading on a date to be confirmed. You […]
